Football in England did not begin with the Premiership. Otherwise I nominate the entire Huddersfield Town triple Football League Division One Champions team of 1926. With Herbert Chapman as manager.

Or possible the Royal Engineers of 1875.

But not Chapman's Arsenal. They were crap as any fule know.

English football in the 60s and 70s was miles better and meaningful - you actually had a few natives allowed to play, for one thing

OGR; do you remember there was a day (1970s & early 80s) when the Italian League prohibited any foreigners from playing. I think they they moved to allowing 2 (subject to Italian immigration) in the 1980s before Bosman (1990s??)

BAM - you mean Robert Enke, I think. Didn't play in the EPL as far as I am aware. Agree the book is very good. I recently read the same author's book about former Barnsley sticksman Lars Leese. Just as good.

Coracle, you love a bit of lower division. Remember Martin Aldridge? Killed driving home from a match while on loan at Northampton, IIRC

Yes, ex-Oxford forward, who use to work the channels. I'd always rated him as well
