Allen & Overy has appointed Grant Fuzi, the founder of its Australian operations and the local Managing Partner, to be its Senior Partner in the region.

Staff suspected that something might be afoot when David Morley, the firm's Global Senior Partner, made a surprise visit to Sydney in the New Year and was observed in lengthy conversations with Fuzi. Following his departure an internal email went round saying that as of 1st May Fuzi would be the external face of the the firm, would focus more on client work and would step back from management. The day to day running of the firm would be handled by three partners - Geoff Simpson, Jason Denisenko and John Samaha.

He da man

For some unknown reason, the moves have been shrouded in secrecy. The email noted that "we are not making any external announcements of these changes", and the firm's website still names Fuzi as Managing Partner.

A spokesman for the firm said that "having successfully grown our Australian practice to over 100 partners and associates, we are making some additions to our management structure to build on the success we have already achieved in the Australian market".
