An ex-Addleshaw Goddard Managing Associate is awaiting sentencing for possession of crystal meth.

Corporate lawyer Marc Cropper worked in Addleshaw's London office for five years before returning to his native New Zealand in 2013 to join Auckland firm Simpson Grierson. In a press release the firm ran to celebrate his arrival, Cropper said, "I loved working and living in London and all the opportunities and travel it entails, but you really can't beat day to day life here".

Not when you're tripping balls on tina, at least. In July the lawyer, who specialises in technology, telecommunications and outsourcing, was caught in a police drug sting called Operation Sienna. He pleaded guilty to possession of between 2.5g and 4.5g of methamphetamines, enough for around 200 hits (apparently: RollOnFriday has relatively little knowledge of effective meth dosages). Prosecutors dropped a charge of intent to supply.

The Auckland District Court refused Cropper's request that his name not be released, and while his lawyer said that he would make an appeal to the High Court to preserve his client's anonymity, in fact none was filed. He faces up to six months in prison.

A spokeswoman for Addleshaw Goddard declined to comment on the basis that Cropper left the firm two years ago, while a spokeswoman for Simpson Grierson declined to comment on the basis that Cropper left the firm very recently after being arrested with enough meth to fell a rhino.

I worked at AG and he was in the team before my time. Apparently he is a really nice guy. I feel sorry for him :(
