Shoosmiths confirms 86 redundancies

Shoosmiths has confirmed that 86 members of staff will be leaving the firm

The firm was originally planning to get rid of 93 staff from its consumer legal arm, as revealed by RollOnFriday in May. It seemed that Shoosmiths' Basingstoke-based volume motor personal injury team would be most affected, and the news was announced in a deluge of a slightly-too-cheerful management crap-speak.

The consultation process is now complete, and the final result is that 86 staff will be leaving: the slight reduction in the number of job losses can be seen as a tiny cherry on the otherwise enormous turd of a consultation. According to the firm, only 15 of the redundancies are compulsory.

Shoosmiths Basingstoke: how it may look.

In a statement, Shoosmiths said "it is very regrettable that we had to make redundancies...this has been a difficult time, and those affected have conducted themselves with professionalism and dignity throughout the consultation process".

Talking of dignity, RollOnFriday readers will remember that on a previous occasion when Shoosmiths stiffed its staff by deferring training contracts without compensation, a motley selection of future trainees wrote an excruciating open letter to The Lawyer defending the firm's choices ("together we will progress and prevail" etc). Will anyone at the firm will be so generous this time round?

Shoosmiths are a horrible firm to work for. To be fair they are making it quite clear they could n't care less about their staff. At least they're honest.
