Orrick is failing to keep on the only trainee qualifying in its London office this spring.

It marks the latest unimpressive statistic for Orrick's recruitment team to keep quiet about at career fairs. In 2012 just three out of six trainees were offered NQ positions. Last September not one of its five qualifiers was kept on. At the time the firm's training principal admitted that in hindsight Orrick's decision to double the size of its trainee intake was "a little ambitious".

"Alas, poor Orrick! NQ-slim, no ratio"

The latest stat suggests the firm's trainees are still bearing the brunt of its over-optimistic growth estimates, and probably explains why Orrick still hasn't changed the guff on its recruitment literature about trainees needing to be "self sufficient" with a "sense of humour".

There was better news however over at Trowers & Hamlins, which is keeping on all six of its trainees. Despite the firm's lack of cash and troubles in Egypt, it seems there are still berths aplenty in London. It will be the second year running the firm has opted to retain 100% of its March qualifiers.
