A woman who says she was hurt while fighting for a sex toy at an Ann Summers party is suing the pub which hosted the event.

Sylvia Deehan claims she was injured at the pub in Dublin during a game in which guests had to burst as many balloons as they could between their legs. When Deehan tied for first place with another woman, the Ann Summers representative tossed a prize, described in court as “a ring that goes around a certain part of a man”, into the air. Deehan claims she was injured when, in the ensuing excitement, her rival shoved her out of the way and into a loudspeaker.

Deehan was taken to hospital suffering from breathing difficulties and bruised ribs. She says she spent the next two weeks in bed, and not in a sexy way. But worse still, she missed out on 'Hunks of Desire', the stripper troupe which took top billing that night.

Deehan's action for damages is being heard on appeal by the High Court after it was thrown out by the Dublin Circuit Court last year. Under cross-examination Deehan denied that she was drunk and had actually been injured in another incident after being thrown out of the pub. She also refutes allegations that she snatched another guest's chicken curry at the sophisticated soirée, explaining to the court that "I never did nothing to no curry”.

Meanwhile, the barristers have been amusing themselves by asking witnesses in court about the size of the sex toy. Presumably laying the groundwork for when they tell their disappointed client it's not the size of the bill that matters, it's paying it within 30 days.
