Slaughter and May is promoting seven London associates to partner.

Normally the firm only makes up a couple of partners a year, so this is a bit of a seachange. It's the largest number made up since 2006, when the firm promoted eight associates, and comes on the back of two promotions and one lateral hire in Hong Kong earlier this year. Ten new partners in one year, all of them going straight to equity and on more money in their first year than many people will earn in a lifetime. At least one firm is confident about this week's Budget...

Three of the seven new partners are women - Anna Lyle-Smith, Azadeh Nassiri and Susannah Macknay. This compares well with A&O, the only other Magic Circle firm to have announced promotions so far, which made up two women in a round of 16. It takes the total number of female partners at Slaughter and May to 20% for the first time ever.

Richard Clark, Slaughters' Executive Partner, told RollOnFriday that "we are delighted to be welcoming seven new partners. Although a higher number than the last few years, our numbers do vary from year to year and of course are reflective of the quality of the candidates and the strength of our business across a wide spectrum of practice areas."
