In the latest raft of partner promotions Bird & Bird has announced that it has made up 11 partners.

London was the winner geographically, with four new partners: a significant increase on last year when only two were made up. The rest are scattered across the globe, including two in Dusseldorf, and one each in Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi, Copenhagen, Shanghai, and Madrid. Three out of the 11 are female.

    To the faraway towns

The numbers have remained on a par with recent years. In 2013 Two Birds also made up 11, and in 2012 that number edged to 12. The latest figures will take Bird & Bird to 270 partners across its 26 offices.

In partnership watch it's been a mixed bag of highs and lows. Nabarro and Trowers and Hamlins had unusually low partner promotions, with fewer than half the numbers made up in 2013. But DAC Beachcroft and Macfarlanes have both upped its numbers. As for the magic circle, A&O made up 16 (its smallest round in recent years), Links fell slightly from 24 to 21, there's a slight increase at Freshfields (making up 15) but it was in no way close to 2012 levels when 20 were made up. Slaughter and May made up 7 in a seachange year for the firm which usually only makes up one or two. Clifford Chance have yet to release its results.

Meanwhile in other partner promotion news, Field Fisher Waterhouse, Fisher Price, Field Fisher managed to make up five to partner, despite the firm losing two in the last six months. London was the champion again, which will see all five names added to the letterhead.

'Visionary' Managing Partner Michael Chissick said "We are currently going through a transformation process and our people are at the centre of it".

I wonder when we'll hear from Bond Dickinson. Word on the street is that it'll be a Bristol and London heavy promotion round.
