As promotion season rumbles on, Clifford Chance has joined Linklaters in making up more women than men in London.

Four out of seven of CC's new London partners are women, a result which means the firm's London partnership is now 21% female (globally it's 17%). Firms struggle to promote women into their partnerships for a number of depressing reasons, (unattractive working options for mothers being one), despite 63% of training contracts being awarded to women. So while CC, like most firms, still has a long way to go, any hint of the partners' dining room becoming more female-friendly and less thick with cigar smoke and gonads deserves at least a small hurrah.

A welcoming partnership yesterday

The Magic Circle firm also boosted its Asia Pacific partner count, making up seven associates out of a global round of 21. Unlike certain other firms, whose promotion numbers have cratered, CC's have been pretty steady. 20 last year, 27 the year before, and 23 in 2011 *statattack complete*.

Meanwhile, there's relief for Herbert Smith Freehills' London associates. 2013 saw the first round of promotions since the Freehills merger, and only four were made up in London. But this year the tap has been turned back on, and while 11 Asia Pacific-based associates in a global round of 23 got the nod, so did 11 in London. Who can now celebrate, bask in the glow of status and then channel that glow into working their arses off because it never ends.
