One of Glasgow's leading lawyers claims he was asked to resign after calling Alex Salmond an arsehole.

Mike Dailly, principal solicitor at Govan Law Centre, sits on the board of the Scottish Housing Regulator. At least he does for now: he claims its chairwoman called to ask for his resignation after he tweeted the message below last Saturday.

Dailly is a prominent voice against Scottish independence, and was clearly pretty agitated by Salmond's nationalism. And he initially refused to back down, relying on statute - "we have Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights for a reason. It provides the right to freedom of expression, but it would seem if you attack the First Minister you get sacked."

However Dailly's harrumphing justification was swiftly followed by an "unreserved" apology for any offence he had caused.

A spokesman for Salmond said that "we are grateful for Mr Dailly's apology and view the matter as closed". So if he is an arsehole, at least he's a gracious arsehole.
