An 18 year-old has been fined for taking a selfie in the dock.

Joel Norris and three friends were appearing before magistrates in Bournemouth on charges of threatening behaviour when Norris whipped out his phone and snapped a picture of himself and his crew. He tweeted the selfie with the caption "Lads in the court box lol".

    "Me at burning house #YOLO"

After lolling and rofling, the CPS charged Norris with taking and publishing a photograph of a criminal court, which is an offence under the 1925 Criminal Justice Act. Norris plead guilty and was fined £290 plus a victim surcharge of £29. The £29 will go into a national pot instead of to the court, even though its dignity was undermined and it might appreciate a bunch of flowers.

Magistrate Kathleen McNally said "I go out to talk to schools about the long-term effects of appearing in court and it's not anything to laugh out loud about, I can assure you". While Norris photobombed her for the lulz.
