A law firm has obtained a court order enabling it to search the house of an ex-employee it suspects of thievery.

According to a RollOnFriday source, Stockport firm Gorvins recently suffered a "significant" theft of client money. RollOnFriday understands that the firm obtained a court order to enter the home of a former legal clerk from its wills, trusts and probate department.

Gorvins Senior Partner Mark Deverell told RollOnFriday, "The conduct of a former legal clerk is currently being investigated by the Practice and the appropriate authorities have been notified". He said the firm “is reviewing a small number of client files and if it is eventually established that any of those clients have been subjected to any loss then, of course, they will be fully reimbursed".

Deverell declined to comment further on the scale of the potential losses or the raid, and so it's not known whether the missing cash was found behind the cistern.

Legal clerks help keep the place running, on the same principle as an Army needs its sergeants, the Navy needs its Petty Officers, so law firms need their legal clerks. The job is the same only the title has changed.

PS I was a legal clerk from November 1972 to May 2013 with a 15 months break, and PROUD OF MY CONTRIBUTION
