A lawyer has fought back after his unusual style enraged a judge.

Alan Blacker was blasted by Judge David Wynn Morgan at Cardiff Crown Court for wearing robes adorned with ceremonial St John Ambulance medals and colourful ribbons while representing a man accused of causing death by dangerous driving.

Wynn Morgan told Blacker, "If you want look like something out of Harry Potter you can forget coming to this court ever again", and railed that even a barrister awarded the Victoria Cross wouldn't wear it to court as "He would have considered it the height of vulgarity".

Harry Potter and the Middle Age

But Blacker, who prefers to be known as Dr The Right Honourable The Lord Harley of Counsel of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, has hit back. Blacker said 'My qualifications, status and offices were brought into disrepute and I was personally very upset by the comments made towards me" and that he was "shocked to the core" that his title had been questioned after "the sacrifice of thousands of men who have died for the freedoms that are referred to in the title of Lord Harley for almost 1,100 years".

Dr The Right Honourable The Lord Harley etc/Alan defended his use of trinkets, saying, "The medals are there to balance the playing field. They may be for voluntary medical service but they bear the face of the Queen. They are not some poxy swimming badge".

Blacker should know. His LinkedIn page reveals that as well as 'Boiler testing under the new code of practice - life made easy' and 'Hauling Trailers, the law made simple', he wrote 'All you wanted to know about medals but were too afraid to ask'. According to his profile he is also the "Mozart of the courtroom" and "almost a national treasure". And is fluent in Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Hindi and the Luo language of Kenya and Tanzania. And, of greater concern to Wynn Morgan, has patented a siege weapon called The Hedgehog.

Re: "Trumpet" - sure looks like he blows his own - and he's never going to get anyone to blow it for him, either..
