A paralegal who worked at Linklaters for over ten years has been jailed for 12 months after he admitted fleecing the firm of £86,000.

Raza Kanval, 36, fraudulently photocopied signed invoices to benefit his friend, Karim Rashid, so that he was paid twice for the work his company did for Linklaters. Rashid’s business was struggling and, at Linklaters’ expense, Kanval thought he’d throw him a lifeline. But that didn't really work, as Rashis pissed it away down the casino instead.

"I knew I should have put it on 17 black"

Kanval was suspended from the Magic Circle firm in March 2012 and was dismissed later that year. He admitted one charge of fraud at the Old Bailey.

A chatty Linklaters spokesman said “we now regard the matter closed and have no further comment to make”.

Who cares I have worked 4 two mc firms for many years and seen padding by fee earners go completely wacky.

Crikey! He was a bit shifty but never thought he was quite that stupid. Really nice guy though, he'll do well in prison.

Easy to comment when you don't know the full facts such as there was no real investigation by the police or the role that plea bargaining played. For the record: he was not that 'stupid'.
