The founder of DLA has answered the call of his many fans and published his tell-all memoirs.

Just in time for Christmas Halloween, lawyers across the country have received emails from Roger Lane-Smith with the subject heading, "My Brand New Autobiography at a Special Price". Delighted recipients are already offering quotes for the paperback edition of "A Fork in the Road". One senior associate (not from DLA Piper) raved to RollOnFriday, "I cannot believe I have been spammed with this".

    Yours for £12.99 (fork not included)

Billed as the rags-to-riches story of "one lawyer's determined quest for the biggest and the best", the book promises to satisfy anyone who has wondered, "How did Roger Lane-Smith build up the world's largest law firm within 30 years, starting from a tiny Manchester side-steet?" RollOnFriday has not received its review copy, but presumably "Isn't Baker & McKenzie the world's largest law firm?" is not the answer.

Non-lawyers shouldn't pass over the book either, since it is "about much more than the law". Lane-Smith has "been close to some of the key moments of the last 30 years", and while the new Forrest Gump is friends with captains of industry, he "is equally at home with Hollywood celebrities such as Aaron Spelling, David Soul and Joan Collins". Which is slightly worrying as Aaron Spelling died in 2006.

Don't feel bad about buying multiple copies for all the family, as the profits are going to UNICEF and the Shooting Stars Children's Hospital.

Those working titles in full:

-"A spoon in the alley"
-"A Roger in the Lane"

-"A fork in Sir Nigel"
-"Paid by the Piper"
-"My friend Aaron Spelling"
-"Me and my fork"
-"Tine to quit"

I imagine that when Sir Nige was asked for a nice quote for the book (which claims it was RLS that built DLA, not Sir Nige) his response was: 'Fork off, mate!'

Following in the footsteps of troglodyte Wayne Rooney and the 4th bio of Fergie we have this...the really interesting question is: why genuinely does he think anyone really gives a monkeys? Before I read a bio I ask myself:
1. is it of interest - No;
2. what contribution good or bad has the subject made to the store of a) mankind - zero and b) history - zero and
3. can I be inspired by this - by someone's drive and ambition ?- No

So, putting a mega law firm together : scores 0 out of 10 and does not merit a bio mainly because it's dull but nice ego trip...
