A 26-year-old law student from London has been found guilty of possessing information likely to be useful to a terrorist.

Erol Incedal's trial was held in secret at the Old Bailey, but reporting restrictions were lifted this week after he was convicted of possessing a bomb-making manual on a memory card. Incedal claimed that he had a reasonable excuse for owning it, but the jury were not convinced.

Incedal doesn't seem to have been the most sophisticated of terrorists. Despite possessing the manual, having a photograph of a synagogue on his iPhone and a computer containing coded messages about a Mumbai-style attack and Isis videos, he still thought it was a good idea to drive his black Mercedes at 60mph in a 40mph zone, with no driving licence and no insurance. Presumably he was hiding in plain sight...*

When police pulled him over they found a slip of paper in the car containing Tony and Cherie Blair's address. They planted a bug, and overheard Incedal saying "I made a big mistake. Some very important stuff was in the car. If they find it, I would be f***ed".

Incedal has also been charged with preparing an act of terrorism and faces another trial in the new year.
