Herbert Smith Freehills is keeping on 93% of trainees qualifying this Spring.

41 out of 42 trainees applied for jobs with Herbies, which made offers to 39. All of whom accepted, resulting in a very strong retention rate.

    Hurrah

The firm is having an impressive run of retaining talent. It kept on 92% (38 out of 42 trainees) last Spring and 87% (41 out of 47) in Autumn 2014. It's especially praiseworthy considering the large number of trainees in the HSF cohorts.

But that's not to detract from Reed Smith's achievement. 12 of its diminutive intake of 13 are being kept on, resulting in a 92% retention rate. The firm said that while 11 will be based in London, one lucky NQ is heading to Athens in a shipping container on a shipping secondment, where they will deal with austerity protests, Golden Dawn, a Grexit, the Elgin Marbles and maybe some boats.

Addleshaws has fared less well, with a 50% retention rate. The poor score is potentially misleading since the firm only has four Spring qualifiers. A spokeswoman told RollOnFriday the firm's annual retention rate averages 85%, with March "historically representing a much smaller pool" than September. She added that the firm wished its leavers  "all the best in their future careers".
