A new website has launched in a cynical attempt to flog advertising to desperate barristers bid to bring transparency to the Bar.

Ratemybarrister.com allows readers to score their briefs on knowledge, fight, charm* and outcome. Only 20 barristers are currently listed, and spookily enough all of them have the maximum five stars. Presumably the owners of the site remove the reviews referring to extortionate fees, lacklustre performance and chronic halitosis faster than you can say "Carter-Ruck".

Top of the list is Mr Gareth John Jones, with six reviewers all saying nice things about him. Gareth looks suitably delighted to be at the top of the table.

Most of the others have only one review (presumably by themselves or their clerks), although an honourable mention goes to the new Mrs George Clooney who comes in at number six with two reviewers rating her as "extremely intellectual, very charming" and, err, "extremely intellectual and charming".

*Seriously, charm. Presumably there's a swimsuit category.

Errmmm isn't that just the top twenty? Believe me, listening to barristers on twitter there's plenty of negative reviews.

Seems that the chap behind it is a barrister himself, William Rees from Civitas in Cardiff (two 5-star ratings in case you were wondering).

He was also the guy behind eDraftly (http://www.legalfutures.co.uk/latest-news/barrister-entrepreneur-launches-drafting-service-lawyers), so is clearly pretty enterprising, in addition to apparently being "Excellent performer who is dedicated to his work, shows great promise", as per his rating.

They all have 5 stars and Jones tops the list, but your screen grab shows him only having 4.81?
