A law student has been arrested for protesting at Crufts that breeding pedigree dogs creates mutants with health problems.

Open University law student Luke Steele ran onto the floor of the NEC in Birmingham just as the judges announced which dog had survived to be Best in Show, where he unrolled a banner declaring "Mutts Against Crufts" to the bemusement of the remaining animal and its owner and the assembled crowd of dog-enthusiasts and dog-murderers. Steele, a radical animal rights activist who was sentenced to 18 months in jail in 2012 for harassing laboratory staff, was tackled to the floor by security staff and arrested.

"That's a textbook Going Limp from the young challenger, and Minty's really got her work cut out for her now"

After being given a treat and released without charge, Steele explained that he was protesting on behalf of PETA against pedigree breeding, and said that "dogs deserve better than to suffer and die for a beauty pageant".

Crufts secretary Caroline Kisco said Steele's actions were "potentially putting dogs and their owners at risk”. Unlike usual, when asthmatic Pugs try to negotiate a series of tubes while outrunning poisoners and their own stunted DNA.
