Capsticks is making up to 10 lawyers redundant.

The fee-earners losing their jobs are all in the public healthcare practice of the medical negligence specialist. In 2013 Capsticks raided DAC Beachcroft for five healthcare partners, but a source tells RollOnFriday's the move "has not paid off". Clearly not.

Capsticks isn't a huge outfit, with a headcount of approximately 160 solicitors, and the redundancy round looks set to be the firm's biggest cull since it threw out that partner for fiddling expenses.

In a statement the firm said that "the healthcare sector has been undergoing major structural changes over the last two years, and some of our clients are under considerable financial pressure." As a result, "unfortunately, these factors have impacted on certain areas of our work, and the staff working in those areas". But there may be some hope, maybe. A spokeswomen added that "where possible we will redeploy these individuals within the firm".

Not only is this a misjudgement of the market, it's also fuelled by greed. I used to really enjoy working at Capsticks, now it feels that they just want to prop up expensive, under performing partners, hold back promotions and create imitations of other larger, more successful firms. I pity those affected by this "vision".

I agree. Sad news indeed. Great firm with very talented people but there does seem to have been serious misjudgement over the last few years. With offices opening in B'ham, Leeds and Southampton (sorry, Winchester) plus the swallowing of Coffin Mew's social housing team (where's the money in that under a Tory govt?), it does seem that the firm has been over-reached itself and is now paying the price.

Sad news. Would encourage those left behind to update their CVs and look around to see who is hiring.
