Esteemed legal publisher Chambers has been criticised by job candidates for asking them deeply personal questions at interviews.

Reviews have appeared on interview site glassdoor.com accusing the company of "inappropriate" quizzing which made jobseekers feel "uncomfortable". One says the "boss of the company" asked "intrusive" questions including "How old are you? Are you married? If not, then do you have a partner? Why not?"

Another claims they were simply asked "why are you single?" And a third says the HR interviewer required them "to answer about 100 rather strange Yes-or-No questions such as ‘Do you have any sexual dreams?’"

And what do you see now?

It is not clear why Chambers needs to know what its potential employees get up to while they sleep, although the correct answer is of course "I dream of innovative new ways to flog crappy plaques to law firms".

A spokesman for Chambers told RollOnFriday that the HR director had recently left and the replacement was conducting a full review of HR processes. "We never ask people about sexual dreams" he added (although that didn't stop RollOnFriday from providing him with a full and detailed update).

Er... This story isn't really exclusive if it was sourced from a public-access website, is it?

Come on Chambers! Everybody knows Michael Chambers sits in every interview (asking you to pick a colour to analyse who you are apparently!) so I doubt very much it's down to their HR director (if they have one) to put together one hundred questions... Or does this mean Mr Chambers was blissfully unaware of what was going on while being in the same room? Strange...

Obviously nothing to do with the old hr director and everything to do with one person - we all know who. There is a new hr director though, so the only way is up.

I thought everyone asked these questions?

Easiest way to separate the weak from the chavs. Or wheat from chaff. Whatevs.

At an interview I was asked which animal would I be. I wish I had got up explained that I was 42 years old thanked them for their time then left promptly. Instead I went along with it. I was cringing for myself after that for ages.

I was interviewed by Michael Chambers when I was a student and he 'read my cards' - some sort of colour-based psychometric testing I was told. Upon putting the coloured cards in order, he proceeded to analyse my character which included telling me that I was 'sexually adventurous'. (I was quite disappointed when I didn't get the job...!)

This story is just the tip of the iceberg at Chambers.

After two years of working there Michael Chambers made reference to the colour test I took in my interview during a review. A little disheartening to think that two years and a promotion after starting that was still the kind of thing I was being judged on...

One day someone will have proof enough to submit the story of what Michael Chambers does on discovering one of his employee's father is a baker.
