A plane bound for England was forced to divert after a partner at a US law firm tried to smash her way out of the cabin.

Sarah E Buffett, a partner at 490-lawyer firm Nelson Mullins, was on a flight from North Carolina to London when she made such a scene over Canada that the plane had to be redirected to Philadelphia.

After takeoff the corporate and immigration lawyer allegedly started ripping up her first class seat and then attempted to smash through the aircraft window with her entertainment remote. After she failed to get eveybody sucked into the atmosphere, US Homeland Security said Buffett threatened staff and acted in a "menacing manner" by the cockpit door. Flightcrew decided she needed to be restrained, but were unable to hold onto her by themselves and passengers had to help hold her while she was placed in plastic handcuffs. She broke out of them twice and in the end a passenger sat on her while her legs were taped together.

    Always bet on Buffett

Buffett was removed from the flight in Philadelphia. She told law enforcement officials that she had drunk at least three glasses of wine, had not eaten the on-flight meal and had taken a Zaleplon pill prescribed for her insomnia. She said she couldn't remember anything after that until she was being sat on.

Her lawyer told US legal news site Above the Law, "Ms. Buffett wishes to express her sincerest apologies to all the passengers, flight staff, and everyone else affected by her behavior", and that she was, "undertaking all appropriate professional, medical, and personal measures to ensure such behavior can never happen again."

In the meantime, Buffett's unsympathetic firm has suspended her and removed her profile from its website.

To be fair, the inflight movie was Best Marigold Hotel 2, so it's pretty understandable that at least one person would go loco.
