Baker & McKenzie faces the unedifying prospect of having its own clients testify against it.

The firm owns Law In Context, which it describes as an "online legal information and training venture". However RollOnFriday has been told that a number of former employees of LiC are about to bring a claim in the Swiss Federal Courts claiming unfair dismissal, and that LiC refused to pay their outstanding commission and bonuses.

Law firms face these sorts of claims all the time. But apparently a number of Bakers' clients will be pressganged into testifying as to their working relationships with these former employees. That certainly could prove a little uncomfortable for the firm, which is bound to do whatever it can to prevent the case getting to court.

A spokesman for Bakers said "as a matter of policy we do not comment on employee or personnel matters".
