Responses are rolling in for the In-House Lawyers survey. If you haven't already done so, you can have your say here.

So far, firms have impressed from the standard "no nonsense advice" to the more exotic "great table manners". White & Case has been praised for "understanding excel spreadsheets", illustrating the low benchmark of expectations when it comes to lawyers and IT.

A number of firms have been criticised for their perceived arrogance. One respondent said of a particular firm, "never have I met a more patronising set of people in one small room". And the size of the room probably wasn't the issue. Another commented that a firm's partners were, "too big for their boots". External advisors were also beaten with a stick for not having commercial awareness, which one in-houser said leads to "unprompted wild goose chases" which the firm "will then try and get paid for".

In-house lawyers are also telling RollOnFriday the best and worst perks firms have given them this year. Some went down better than others. One summed up client drinks: "Yaaawn". Several have complained about having to pick up the bill when invited out, with a particularly suspicious respondent adding that a partner "claimed to have 'mislaid' his wallet". For others it boils down to the personalities involved, with one objecting to "anything which involves spending too much time with partners who remind me of my dad".

On the flipside, sports and music events have gone down very well. Rugby World Cup tickets got the thumbs up from several respondents. And music concerts have also came in for praise, even Spandau Ballet at the 02. Although some are damning with faint praise, like the in-house lawyer who said the best perk of the year was jelly beans at an IP conference, because they provided "a massive sugar rush" to "get me through the presentations".
