Slater & Gordon has placed 51 staff into a redundancy consultation.

The personal injury firm is considering closing two of its offices, one in Derby and the other in Failsworth, Manchester. The move could result in 51 fee-earners and support staff losing their jobs.

    Another epic Failsworth, yesterday

The Failsworth office is the legacy home of Fentons, which Slater & Gordon snapped up in 2013. It was one of several firms acquired by the listed Australian lawyers in a spree which transformed Slater & Gordon into one of the country's biggest PI players.

Sources have subsequently told RollOnFriday of various issues, including the apparent punishment of legacy Fentons staff for refusing to accept less favourable contracts. The firm's share price has plummeted, and it came in second from bottom in the RollOnFriday Firm of the Year 2016 survey. Staff gave it a score of just 24%, saying that it brought "Too many" firms together "too soon" and that attempts to integrate them were "pisspoor".

A spokeswoman said that as part of a "review of our property portfolio", Slater & Gordon was "assessing the feasibility" of allowing the leases of the two offices to expire. Along with those chattels known as employees it seems.

She added, "Understandably, this can be unsettling for staff", but said the firm would, "where possible, help individuals find other opportunities within the Slater & Gordon group".

Any news on Waterloo? The Goodmans' legacy office. Clin Neg & the small Catastrophic team should survive, but I can't see most from here at S&G in 2017.

Looks like they are looking at refinancing with major lenders, which means they won't have any money at all for pay rises, shame but S&G are going to the dogs.

Would be a real shame if they closed Failsworth. My heart goes out to the team there, they are a lovely group of people to work with.
