Burges Salmon recently emailed a picture of a cat to opposing lawyers.

The unofficial appendix was added when a member of staff in the joint Firm of the Year 2016's real estate team attempted to print a photograph of her cat. By the time she got to the printer, however, there was nothing to collect. Unbeknownst to her, the picture of her best friend who never lets her down had been printed between two legal documents and swept up by another member of staff. It was then accidentally included with one of the documents and scanned to the other side's solicitor. RollOnFriday's source reports that a Burges Salmon lawyer took the following call:

Other side: "There's a picture of a cat at page 45 of my document."
Burges Salmon: "I'm sorry?"
Other side: "There's a picture of a cat at page 45 of my document."
Burges Salmon: "But...what?"
Other side: "There's a picture of a cat at page 45 of my document."

How the lawyer on the other side felt, yesterday

Colin Ligman, head of the Real Estate practice, told RollOnFriday, "Once the cat was out of the bag our lawyer had kittens when she realised her mistake, which was after a lawyer acting for the other side contacted our matter exec here to ask for a replacement page. Our apology was accepted in good spirit, after all no-one’s purrfect, and we all learned the lesson that it’s always better to paws before hitting send". Ok Colin, back to work now.

I would love to receive a picture of a cat in a boring lease. Would brighten up my day no end.
