Disgruntled flag-waving cleaners are picketing White & Case's London office.

White & Case outsources its cleaning to contractors MITIE, whose staff previously protested outside Clifford Chance over MITIE's employment practices. Now members of the Industrial Workers of the World Union, known as 'Wobblies', have struck at White & Case in an attempt to embarrass the firm into pressuring MITIE to cancel redundancies. Waving red flags on the pavement, they have been handing out flyers asking people to "STOP THE SACKINGS AT WHITE & CASE LLP!"

He's ignoring them now, but wait until his keyboard is covered in crumbs and hairs and no-one's sorting it out

The Wobblies allege that 30 cleaners who work at White & Case, hoovering around associates at midnight, silently emptying their bins and dusting their white shoes, are now facing redundancy because MITIE wants to cut costs and boot out union troublemakers. Citing the case of 'Yolanda', the protestors say that she had been "praised for the quality of her work regularly by White & Case", and that the "real reason she is being sacked is because she was a shop steward". A Union Regional Organiser at the protest told RollOnFriday that MITIE has used a complaint made by White & Case about the quality of the cleaning to justify the redundancies. And so the Union is asking passersby to email White & Case to complain about Yolanda's treatment.

    Throwing a wobblie

White & Case requires all contractors providing services to it in London to pay their employees at least the London Living Wage, and even the Wobblies appear to regard it as blameless. They may have to picket a while longer, as a White & Case insider has told RollOnFriday that so far the total number of emails it has received demanding the reinstatement of Yolanda and the end of MITIE victimisation is, err, no emails at all.

A White & Case spokesman said, "We take our responsibilities towards our employees and contractors seriously. We expect the highest standards at all times and require this of all our service providers".

I think probably everyone agrees that Mitie is an abomination. I'd rather be outsourced to the slums of Lagos than put up with some special needs Mitie relationship manager sending me passive aggressive emails about how leaving 2 paperclips loose on my desk has prevented the clearly trafficked, indentured serfs that they have tricked into a life of living horror and despair from cleaning any desks on the ENTIRE 4TH FLOOR OF THE BUILDING!

AND YET SOME IDIOT THOUGHT SIGNING A 9 YEAR DEAL WITH THESE MUPPETS WAS THE HEIGHT OF GOOD BUSINESS SENSE BECAUSE THE UNIT COST CAME OUT SLIGHTLY LOWER IN THE 1ST 3 MONTHS OF THE BORDERLINE FAUSTIAN PACT!

WELL THAT IS GREAT GUYS (AND TOKEN GIRL) BUT NOW WE HAVE FILTHY DESKS AND WE'RE AT RISK OF BRINGING CHOLERA BACK TO MANCHESTER!!!
