Allen & Overy is retaining 86% of its qualifying trainees this Autumn.

Alhough its annual trainee intake has shrunk from well over 100 to nearer 80 since the recession, the Magic Circle firm still boasts one of the biggest cohorts in the UK, with 42 trainees qualifying this September. Three trainees didn't apply for a job, while the firm made offer to 38 of the remaining 39. 36 accepted.

In recent years, the odds of retention have been longer for A&O's autumn trainees than their Spring cohorts. The firm kept on 91% of its 43 trainees this May and 91% in spring 2015, compared to a (still decent) 86% this autumn and last.
