Irwin Mitchell has been felled by a virus which brought down all its websites and resulted in staff being warned to turn off their computers.

Clients desperate to make a claim against their local council/supermarket/whitefinger vibration compensation fund were greeted with a stark message this week:

    = headless chicken time

Am inside source told RollOnFriday that the firm's solicitors, "are currently under attack from a Virus". Clearly excited by the enforced break from work, they said, "the whole IT infrastructure has been shut down, the public websites are all down currently and they are asking staff to turn off all laptops until further notice".

Asked whether it was a 'CryptoLocker' attack or some other form of advanced intrusion, a spokesman for Irwin Mitchell said, "An issue was identified with a limited number of files". He said, "As a precaution, we took a number of IT systems offline whilst we dealt with the potential problem", adding, "It is important to note that our assessment, and that of our external technical experts, is that no client or employee information has been compromised". Russians. Definitely the Russians. Or Slater & Gordon.

It was probably self inflicted and designed to stop any more disillusioned partners leaving.

Irwin Mitchell Virus - No-one is being told what caused it or what was affected, but usually when they go into lockdown mode they know something serious or client-damaging has happened. Don't let them off with it rollonfriday!

Suppose it prevents the partners giving notice by email. Management will be relieved not to be spending another weekend fretting about how to replace the latest group of big hitters heading for the door. Plenty of tumbleweed blowing around the London office.

Law firm Irwin Mitchell LLP has deployed security software provider Darktrace's "enterprise immune system" solution to monitor and control cyber threats.
"Darktrace allows us to demonstrate that we are on top of incident management: we are monitoring, we are alerting, we are investigating - and not just in small areas of our network, but all of our network," said Mark Vivian, head of IT security at Irwin Mitchell. "It's a game changer for us to be able to see threats early or as they are happening. It allows us to take control of a situation," Vivian explained.

How's that working out for you these days...?

Well that's what happens when you have an IT system that would have looked out of date in 1996.

Email link viruses seem to doing the rounds at the moment. Some places have been targetted more than once, so expect it to happen again and very soon

Mike lynch mentioned in other story who sold autonomy and is funding due diligence "AI" with slaughter and may is also a director of darktrace. EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED *gets into foil pyramid*
