A BLP partner is taking his musical about Brexit to the Edinburgh Fringe.

Antitrust and competition lawyer Chris Bryant wrote Brexit -The Musical at weekends, after work and on the tube last summer, but never while in the office billing clients for research and internal discussion. He said, “I have been advising clients on the issues surrounding Brexit for the last two years and writing songs for most of my life. It seemed obvious to put the two things together to pen a musical about Brexit".

B-TM tells the story of Boris Johnson and his assistant Michael Gove as they search for the lost plan for Brexit in order to save the nation from disaster. Bryant said that everyone from Theresa May to Sarah Vine makes an appearance, although the one section featuring lawyers, which covers Gina Miller's High Court victory, "might have to be cut for time". Bryant, a self-taught pianist, guitarist and lyricist, said that although he has been writing for years, his Brexit opus was the first "to make it out of my living room". RollOnFriday extracted a couple of lyrics from Bryant. Guess who delivers them to win no free tickets, which can be purchased here:

“I know how the British people are so easy to deceive,
so I declared that I would be campaigning for Vote Leave.
Get a narrow loss, be a plucky loser, valiant and then
I would surely beat George Osborne to the keys to Number Ten.”

“My enemies, they threw my Eurosceptic past at me,
but my new-found Europhilia was clear for all to see.
And I know my contribution was really rather good.
At least a quarter of Labour members knew on which side the party stood.”

    A starlight express to hell

BLP Managing Partner Lisa Mayhew said* the firm “is hugely supportive of Chris and we recognise the importance of allowing people to follow their passions beyond law. He is our Resident DJ at our Christmas parties, and I know that his creative talents coupled with his intimate knowledge of the complexities of EU law makes him well placed to write this musical, which we are all looking forward to seeing”.

*but readers should sing it to the tune of Mr Mistoffelees
