A Jones Day law clerk has become a Guinness World Record holder.

Matthew Whitaker, who works in Jones Day's Sydney office, broke the record for fastest marathon in a three piece suit. he clocked an impressive time of 2 hours, 44 minutes and 29 seconds.

Whitaker told The Sydney Morning Herald that he was inspired by a man who took the record for fastest jester in last year's Sydney Running Marathon. Before smashing the suit record on Saturday, the clerk embarked on a gruelling training regime in which he ran around Sydney parks before work. Whitaker said he "got a fair few looks. People were just a bit confused as to why I was running around Centennial Park at 6am in a suit".

Best of all, he didn't have to change when he got to the office.

Guinness Record rules stipulated that Whitaker had to keep his top button done up for the entire race, although he was allowed to wear trainers. Like a madman, he chose a wool three-piece, which was one size too big, "so the pants weren't too restrictive". It came off worse than the record breaker, who said, "I'll see how it pulls up after getting dry-cleaned againbut it's not looking in great shape. It's drenched in sweat. The more I think about it, that one might be done".

Whitaker's nipple-chafing time saw him finish 27th, beating the previous suit-running record by a convincing 18 minutes. A fun-loving spokesman for Jones Day got into the spirit of things and did not respond to a request for comment.

I commend the good sense in wearing one's suit while running around the parks before work. No point wasting precious chargeables showering and changing.
