A criminal lawyer has claimed he was wrongfully accused or stealing orange juice from a passenger lounge at Gatwick Airport.

Keith 'OJ' Oliver said that he paid £30 to use the 'luxury' No 1 lounge at Gatwick, left, then re-entered and took some complimentary orange juice from the fridge. But, he said, instead of furnishing him with a napkin and nuts, staff accused him of stealing his chilled beverage, and shortly afterwards four armed police arrived and confronted him. Opting for maximum supplication, Oliver said he, "immediately went to the most senior officer, introduced myself, showed him my passport and business card and endeavoured to explain what had happened".

After surviving his ordeal, the Peters & Peters barrister wrote to No 1 Lounge demanding that it pay "damages" of £500 to a police charity of his choice. He clarified, "I seek absolutely no personal compensation whatsoever but I am extremely concerned that as a law-abiding member of the public (my professional status is totally irrelevant) I should be treated publicly in such a contemptuous and disgraceful manner".

Oliver did not respond to requests for comment, however No 1 Lounge disputed his story. A spokeswoman for the business told RollOnFriday, "Following our own investigation, which included various independent witness accounts, we have a different understanding of the events and believe the reporting to be misrepresentative. For example we did not call armed police. While we do not see value in further discussing the matter we still believe our actions were appropriate".
