A personal injury firm has admitted threatening to sue clients who left it bad reviews.

Posting on one review site, 'Andrew' complained in June that Your Lawyers had mishandled his claim. He said that his contact solicitor changed five times and then he discovered the fifth was not on holiday, as he had been told, but in a new job at Irwin Mitchell. When he asked the firm who was dealing with his urgent matter, he said he was told his case no longer had merit.

In a second post in July, Andrew wrote, "i today was threatened with high court legal action for defamation". He said Your Lawyers, which has offices in Sheffield and Chesterfield, had "bullied" him "for speaking out" in his review.

Another reviewer calling himself Bryn wrote that he was assisting a Your Lawyers client. In a review titled "Unimpressed bordering on appalled" he described lapses in service which included Your Lawyers staff getting the date of his client's accident "completely wrong" in correspondence. "They didn't even get the right year", he wrote, noting that the firm was still acting on the claim but that he was looking to move. Bryn also revealed that it was his second attempt to review the firm. He said he received "a demand from Your Lawyers, under threat of legal action" to remove his first pan, which he conceded was more "subjective".

Your Lawyers, until you cross them.

A spokesman for Your Lawyers admitted that it threatened to sue clients, but only because they were liars. He told RollOnFriday, "As I am sure you will be aware, the personal injury marketplace is a competitive one. Unfortunately, we have received both fake and negative reviews, and we have also received reviews which are wholly false and misleading". He said the firm only contemplated proceedings as "a last resort", and only in relation to reviews "which are so manifestly false" that they "may have a negative impact on this firm’s reputation".

Despite the danger for all concerned, he said, "we actively encourage our clients to provide feedback on our service". Preferably just to Your Lawyers, though, which apparently has "several hundred testimonials across our websites".

They have a point. Also those of us who advise on on line postings know that competitors in other sectors at least repeatedly put fake adverse reviews up. It's a huge problem.

Good for them. Lots of firms are plagued by dishonest reviews from competitors and disgruntled clients. Nice to see someone take a stand.

Seems the Your Lawyers staff are posting. Its perfectly acceptable to sue a client for criticism as it's fake news!

I've had plenty of internet complaints from litigants in person and lay clients on the other side. I've never had one from my own clients.

I'm literally amazed that anyone thinks that threatening to sue an ex-client is remotely appropriate

"may have a negative impact on this firm’s reputation"??!
Having had the pleasure of dealing with injury claims submitted by this firm on the other side, I think their staff do a perfectly good job of that themselves!
The feedback from 'Andrew' and 'Bryn' may not be that inaccurate, from my experience....

It looks like they've even setup a website to promote only their own favourable reviews! http://www.yourlawyersltdreviews.co.uk/
