A Clifford Chance partner has been accused of coaching a witness.

The Singapore Law Society is, according to sources, investigating a litigation partner in the Singapore office of Clifford Chance Asia for breaching ethical conduct rules. RollOnFriday is not naming the partner to spare his blushes, and because he hasn't been convicted of anything yet.

The alleged infraction came to light in full view of a judge and teams of lawyers. Sources report that during a trial, the partner's witness pulled out a note while being cross-examined, and read from it. The suggestion is that the crib-sheet was provided by the partner. If so, he probably didn't intend for it to be delivered like a speech.

"I can answer that question, hold on [scrumple crumple] David, whatever you do, do not mention the breached warranty, just say you have no recollection. If they ask about the second payment, point to your limited knowledge of financial matters at the time."

When asked about the allegations, a Clifford Chance spokesman told RollOnFriday "we don't comment on rumour or speculation. Shame! Fake News!" *

The Singapore Law Society also refused to be drawn on rumour or speculation. A spokesman said it had to "ensure confidentiality of the proceedings" and "cannot comment on any disciplinary matter".
