A partner at Hogan Lovells' Dubai office has just been released from jail - after having been incarcerated for driving through a red light.
The partner was convicted of the minor traffic offence and sentenced to 20 days in jail. That's 20 days of bend and stretch in a skanky Dubai jail, for what would merit three points on a driving licence and a fifty quid fine in the UK. Jeez... As the partner was unable to leave the country whilst still under sentence he had no choice but to serve his time.
A spokesman for the firm said that he was unable to comment as it was a personal matter.
Any lawyers lured by the promise of the expat life in Dubai, might like to think very carefully...
