A Freshfields trainee ended up spending most of last weekend in a Dubai jail following a drunken night out.

The male trainee - who had only just arrived in the notoriously illiberal emirate - was an attendee at a party last Friday night. And where expats go, booze will flow.

According to sources, the event became a little too raucous and the trainee was asked to leave. He hopped into a taxi back to his apartment, although unfortunately was lacking both keys to get in and money with which to pay for the ride. The cabby, on hearing this, turfed him out and he began to walk back to the party.

Unfortunately, whilst meandering along the road he was picked up by the Dubai police. And - in his tired and emotional state - was whisked to jail. That was midnight on Friday. He was released on Sunday.

A spokesman for Freshfields told RollOnFriday that the firm was "helping the trainee whilst he co-operates with the authorities' enquiries and are providing the support he needs".

Given that you can get twenty days in the slammer for running a red light, why do so many people want to work in Dubai? Oh yes, the tax free income.
