This week saw International Be Kind To Lawyers Day. It fell on Tuesday*, and was the attempt at self promotion brainchild of Steve Hughes who is one of the few Americans who, technically, isn't a lawyer.

However Hughes seems to like lawyers, and says he got fed up with his friends dissing them and reckons that "lawyers are just as good as bubble wrap and ice cream". To support his claim, he has come up with some fascinating lawyer facts: did you know that American Football coach Vince Lombardi and The Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek were both lawyers? Who knew**.

    An unkind client yesterday

In previous years International Be Kind To Lawyers Day has garnered its fair share of press attention. In 2009 Entertainment Weekly paid homage to Atticus Finch, Perry Mason and Ally McBeal, and in 2010 a columnist on the Wall Street Journal invited a random lawyer to lunch.

But this year the press has been notably silent and Steve's website had only been viewed 9,536 times, so it would appear that the rest of the world is waning in its enthusiasm. Or have your clients ever engaged in random acts of kindness towards you? Send in your stories, and if yours is the best a member of the RoF team will dress up as a client and come round to give you a hug and a box of chocolates.

*Also Winston Churchill Day, fact fans: shame Mrs T couldn't hold out for another day.

**Who cared.

*sigh*
The Shakespeare comment is repeated ad nauseam as evidence that he hated lawyers.

It is uttered by the character (in Henry VI Part 2)who proposes to install himself as an autocrat. But in order to do so, he needs to kill all the lawwyers who would otherwise support and hold individual rights, which he proposes to crush.

It's therefore a pro-lawyer extract.
