Officers from the West Midlands Police are being investigated after one of their dogs gave a witness statement to the Crown Prosecution Service.

The CPS apparently repeatedly chased the force for a statement from "PC Peach" on an unknown matter. Prosecutors were presumably unaware that PC Peach was an Alsatian, until they received the following statement:

A spokesman for the West Midlands Police told the Huffington Post that the matter would be investigated. "The Professional Standards Department are looking into this, early enquiries suggest it is a light-hearted exchange as a result of a misunderstanding around a police dog and a police officer."

The CPS was obviously unaware that whilst it was hound-ing for the statement it was barking up the wrong tree. They'll have to beagle more careful in future and spaniel more time checking the species of the police officers involved.

CPS shortly to announce prosecution of PC Peach for assault following confession that he bit a suspect.

I call"hoax" on this story.

Seriously, how bloody stupid do you think we are?

As if ANYONE who works at CPS would be switched on enough to spot this.

The reality of the situation is CLEARLY that the statement would have formed part of advance disclosure and made it into the trial bundle.

PC Peach should write more statements. It's the first one I've ever seen from anyone in the Police that DIDN'T contain spelling errors.

It's the clearest and least ambiguous witness statement I've ever read. PC Peach should receive a commendation.

The West Midlands officers also deserve a commendation for having retainined a sense of humour and perspective. Perhaps they could lend them to the hopscotch police next time they're on patrol.
