A law firm has banned staff from using air fresheners after they repeatedly set off the fire alarm attempting to mask foul odours.

Fire engines were called and the Guernsey office of Carey Olsen, an offshore firm, was evacuated after someone sprayed so much Air Wick in the loos that they triggered the smoke detector. Apparently it's not the first time it's happened. Staff received the following email:

It remains to be seen whether automated puffs of ocean breeze will be enough to subdue the powerful bum fumes afflicting the firm. However air fresheners clearly won't deal with the root cause of the problem. A source told RollOnFriday that "last time it was a client who had obviously been on the curry the night before" and also mysteriously blamed "high fat milk".

Instead of remaining silent but deadly, the firm said, "we would comment but all the partners are otherwise engaged".

This happened at our offices. Given that the toilets have no ventilation and a radiator that is stuck on red hot (even now), the air fresheners were our last defence against the offices smelling like a cesspool
