John Quinn, name partner of Quinn Emanuel and famous litigator, was given a bollocking by a US judge this week in the Apple v Samsung case.

Apple claims that Samsung (advised by Quinn) copied its iPad and iPhone. It wants a record $2.5bn in damages, and with so much at stake it's unsurprising that Quinn leapt to his feet, desperate to introduce evidence which he maintained would blow Apple's claim out of the water. But his request had previously been rejected, and US District Judge Lucy Koh turned him down again and told him to sit down. Quinn repeated that he was begging the court to allow the evidence, leading Koh to retort "don't make me sanction you".

However Samsung emailed the evidence to the press, with a statement saying it "would have established beyond doubt that Samsung did not copy the iPhone design". The judge was furious and, according to the Verge, demanded to know whether Quinn had played any part in Samsung's actions.

Quinn then issued his own statement, full of righteous indignation, saying that "contrary to the representations Apple's counsel made to this court, Samsung did not issue a general press release and more importantly, did not violate any court order or any legal or ethical standards. These false representations by Apple's counsel publicly and unfairly called my personal reputation into question and have resulted in media reports likewise falsely impugning me personally".

    A pissing contest yesterday

It all seems a battle of egos. But then that's what one might expect of a man who describes himself as "Founder & Managing Partner at Quinn Emanuel, largest biz litigation firm in the world. GC @ AMPAS. Ironman tri-athlete, Shakespeare enthusiast, father of 5".

The case resumes today.

"believes himself to be father of 5".

The way that statement from Quinn is worded, I'm thinking "defamation suit for $1 trillion against Apple to follow shortly, in best American tradition."

Nice to see that he listed his family as last on his list of achievements! What a guy...
