Hello, I was hoping for some advice about a tricky situation.

I have secured and accepted a training contract offer. I was and am delighted with this. Unfortunately, due to my partner's circumstances, I am having to seriously consider moving and this will make working in this firm very difficult. I am gutted.

In the worst case scenario- that I need to try and 'renounce' this acceptance, what are my options? Is an acceptance likely to be legally binding? I have not yet signed the actual training contract.

Any advice appreciated.

You can tell the firm that you can't accept the offer, and politely decline it. There won't be any consequences other than you'll lose the training contract.

Even if you are in breach of contract, the firm would have to mitigate its loss.

There are lots of prospective trainees searching for training contracts. The firm could easily hire someone else. I don't see how it could prove loss.

I think you just politely tell the firm as soon as possible that you are no longer going to be able to start.

Accept the TC, get qualified. That should be your priority over all else especially given that you are delighted with it. Your relationship may end. Once you have tour title, you have it forever (save for if you get struck off). Be clever.
