In a long-overdue crackdown on lines that are not completely horizontal, law school BPP has taken decisive action over the worst offenders: vertical lines:

Dear ROF,

I'm on the LPC, just about to do my exams at BPP. Out of pure frustration thought I'd send you an email.

I have marked my statute books with vertical lines in some cases to save time underlining the whole section, just straight blue pen lines. However, I got an email yesterday informing us that vertical lines are not permissible. So I emailed around frantically trying to find out what I should do. The response was to tippex them all out. I pointed out that vertical white lines would still be visible but it would take hours of valuable revision time to do this. The clever people at BPP don't mind white lines though, it's just the blue ones they care about.

God I love the LPC.
