A woman has been sent to jail for blackmailing a married lawyer after he met her
for sex.
The Leeds lawyer, who cannot be named for wife kicking him out reasons, met Samantha Patrick online in late 2012 when he joined dating websites including No Strings Adult Fun and SaucySingles. After whisking Patrick away for a romantic date in Pudsey, Mr X took her back to his marital bed for some no strings attached fun.
Two weeks later Patrick contacted X to say that she had a broken washing machine. But it wasn't sexy plumber roleplay she was after, it was 200 quid. The solicitor felt sorry for her and gave her the money. Over the next few months Patrick asked for several more sums, which X paid until March 2012, when he told her he'd "had enough of her sob stories". At which point she demanded £1000, threatening to tell his wife about their one night stand if he refused. X coughed up and over the next eight months was blackmailed for £15,750.
By November the stressed lawyer had run out of funds, but Patrick was unsympathetic, texting, "I'm not going away until you pay", and, "I wonder if your wife would like it if her work colleagues knew what you have been up to”. X took out a £10k loan which he told his other half was for home improvements. He gave Patrick another £19,000 before finally going to the police.
Patrick pleaded guilty, saying that she had been suffering from depression and health problems and "felt lonely". She was sentenced to two years in prison, and has moved her profile to www.meet-an-inmate.com.
