Irwin Mitchell has been felled by a virus which brought down all its websites and resulted in staff being warned to turn off their computers.
Clients desperate to make a claim against their local council/supermarket/whitefinger vibration compensation fund were greeted with a stark message this week:
Am inside source told RollOnFriday that the firm's solicitors, "are currently under attack from a Virus". Clearly excited by the enforced break from work, they said, "the whole IT infrastructure has been shut down, the public websites are all down currently and they are asking staff to turn off all laptops until further notice".
Asked whether it was a 'CryptoLocker' attack or some other form of advanced intrusion, a spokesman for Irwin Mitchell said, "An issue was identified with a limited number of files". He said, "As a precaution, we took a number of IT systems offline whilst we dealt with the potential problem", adding, "It is important to note that our assessment, and that of our external technical experts, is that no client or employee information has been compromised". Russians. Definitely the Russians. Or Slater & Gordon.

"Darktrace allows us to demonstrate that we are on top of incident management: we are monitoring, we are alerting, we are investigating - and not just in small areas of our network, but all of our network," said Mark Vivian, head of IT security at Irwin Mitchell. "It's a game changer for us to be able to see threats early or as they are happening. It allows us to take control of a situation," Vivian explained.
