A law firm has been accused of "shameful" ambulance chasing in the aftermath of the Croydon tram crash.

Seven people died and fifty more were injured on 9 November when a tram overturned after travelling too quickly round a bend. The next day MW Solicitors, which has a string of offices across South London. tweeted its condolences, adding a subtle tout for business.

Three days later it was delighted to be able to announce that its offer was heard.

Partner Helen Clifford was moved to tell The Sun, “Every person involved in this tragedy will have some psychological injury", adding, "and for a lot that will be more severe than the physical effects”. Ker-ching. The paper repeated the good news that the firm was "supporting" one of the victims, where in all cases 'support' is presumably contingent on a Conditional Fee Arrangement.

A source told RollOnFriday that lawyers didn't just tweet for their tram crash gold. When news of the tragedy broke, partners at a "certain Legal 500 firm law firm with a national presence, with multiple sites in south London" instructed fee-earners to "dash" to the site "with their business cards". The source accused the unnamed firm of "disgusting opportunism".

MW Solicitors did not respond to multiple requests for comment, and joins fellow experts in the PI dark arts.
