Do any of you Crypto types know if is possible to get bitcoin put options with a 1 year plus expiration date? Obviously with a counterparty that has a sensible amount of covenant strength behind it.
Just to be clear what I want to do is look at pricing for deep out of the money options on bitcoin with relatively long expiry dates. I want to bet on a massive bitcoin crash in the next year or (ideally) two while fixing my downside exposure if the madness continues.
10 minutes on google suggests these products exist but its quite hard to figure out easily who is doing them.
I don't know what you mean by 'nominal value' to be honest. It doesn't make any sense in the context of a traditional put option. The option would be way out of the money now. I don't know what the pricing is. That is what I am keen to find out!
Wango - I am mainly motivated by the potential for smugness vis a vis my wide boy neighbour out here who is sitting on big paper gains on bitcoin at the moment...
I obviously won't be mentioning this little bet to him until I know the result!
As for how much Mrs C spends. You have no idea m7...
It's a bit like the way I put 25 quid on Wales to win a grand slam every year. Most likely it is money down the drain but it is very, very sweet on the rare occasions it does come off...
I looked into doing it on interactive brokers (where I do equity options) but they only do futures and the minimum size is huge (5 bitcoins per contract)
If IBKR don't do it then I doubt you will find someone reputable who will. I don't think there are any exchange traded bitcoin options.

Why would need collateral on a put? I am not talking about taking a short position now. I am talking about a put option bought for a premium.

Yes, obviously I would be paying the premium up front...

Too volatile and too illiquid.
