Everton

Have we done this yet? The EPL are doing their best to relegate the club I see. Still think they’ll survive.

I’ve not checked but are there any teams at the other end of the table who are likely to face any spending-related issues?

Forest got deducted 4 points and are taking that to appeal.

Everton deducted 8 points so far (for a smaller breach in total than Forest's breach). There's a wrangle over whether interest payments on the stadium that are showing in their accounts as capitalised should warrant further punishment. If Everton are found to be in further breach for that then the punishment could apply retroactively even if the season has ended or could be applied to next season if they're still in the Premier League.

The Premier League recommended 17 points deduction for both Everton breaches (they recommend 5 for Forest's). I can see on that basis how Evertonians think the PL has a vendetta against the club.

Best you can say is that it's all an absolute mess.

I reckon Man City and Chelsea will get a big fine and any other breaches discovered from other teams for the next year will be brushed under the carpet of the new regime that comes in next season as maintaining status quo will be seen as overriding importance.

Given the recent revelations about Abu Dhabi govt interference with the process and the corrupt nature of UK govt, citeh will get away with it

I think it's about time the proper clubs started their own league

It could be super

Just proper clubs going toe to toe. Stadiums full of working class fans and not a shiteh little oil cuck around

They’re doing their best to keep Everton up - postponed part of the hearing until next season.

FA in a total mess. Would have hoped this would all go away but Luton’s revival has put the cat among the pigeons now.

Too much in football these days, in terms of outcomes, is decided away from the field, be it in darkened rooms at Stockley Park or before the bench at some tribunal. No FFP and no VAR, now please. Just go back to the old days of one man in the middle making mistakes when he feels like it, and you’re allowed to spend as much on players as you like.

Scrap VAR for sure.   Absolute dog turd.     Mistakes even out, not worth removing the 100 per cent joy of a goal to eliminate them (even if it did, which it doesnt)

Any rules which your average fan doesn’t understand (including complex reasoning for FFP breaches and penalties) should be scrapped.

As should VAR, which could not have been better designed to (a) suck all of the joy out of literally the best part of an inherently low-scoring sport and (b) treat fans inside the ground worse than people watching it for free on their sofa on a dodgy stick.

VAR could of course be better, however even in its best form it would fail on (a) above.  It’s only when you go to see lower league football you realise it was a solution for a problem that didn’t exist.  People WANT to argue about refereeing decisions. Arguing about what the ref did is wayyy better than arguing about what VAR did, and not knowing whether you’re going to feel like a prick for celebrating a goal that’s ruled out after 5 minutes of cocking around and waiting

FIFA dont seem to realise that the reason football is the most successful sport on earth is because the scoring regularity (perhaps 3 goals per game on average) is perfect for maxim joy per goal without being so rare people get bored.  Take away the pure joy of celebrating a goal and you start to dig away at what made football so successful in the first place.   Yes other sports may have fancy pants video technology, but they are sports with natural breaks and where scoring is less rare and so less treasured.

VAR has just given the kind of person who likes arguing about refereeing decisions something new to argue about.

i can’t remember ever, even once, getting upset about a refereeing decision. It’s a game ffs. I love it, but who gives a shit about the actual outcome.

Yeah you care so little about the results you’ve started and continue to contribute to a thread about how your football team is getting marginally better results than it used to

Yeah, the referee and linesman “errors” even themselves out over the season. Sometimes you get away with it, sometimes you don’t. The pause after a goal has been scored in the EPL is the worst ever thing that’s happened to football.

I want Luton to stay up. Everton have been circling the drain for years.

Before VAR came in Laz accurately said that

a) there would still be arguments about decisions; and

b) even if it were 100% accurate, the overriding objective must be for the game to flow.

Laz's words are as true now as they were then.

I would keep var for goal line decisions only.  So you don’t get nonsense like when lampards goal against Germany wasn’t given

VAR isn’t needed for goal line decisions, it uses Hawkeye technology which confirms goal or no goal to the ref’s watch without the need for any stoppages

Nope. I’m an equal opportunities FFP advocate. Let’s have it right, if you contravene the rules you should be relegated. That’s the only way to enforce them
