Favourite chinese restaurant

Following on from the restaurant thread, does anyone have recommendations? I've heard Hutong is good, but is it really worth the price v. somewhere like Imperial China?

floating lotus and royal china in canary wharf, the latter being best

source: this is where all the asians go. go on a sunday afternoon to royal china to see all the asian families and asian girls with their white boyfriends

I've never tried Hunan, but it's been on my list for a while.

I think Yipin in Islington is seriously underrated.  Pearl Liang is very good.  I used to be more of a fan of Bar Shu (and Ba Shan too before it closed), but haven't been so keen in recent times.

Last Chinese place I ate at was Royal China Canary Wharf (with my Asian wife for TopDawg's benefit) and I enjoyed it, but thought Pearl Liang was better.

Hunan is certainly very good but was even better in the days when old Mr Peng was fully in command.

It's not in Pimlio BTW, it's on Pimlico Road. That side of Buckingham Palace / Ebury Bridge Road is Belgravia.

Minjiang for Peking roast duck

Goldmine for Cantonese roast duck (go do a Barry’s class down the road and then gorge on food!)

Xi’an Impression for biangbiang noodles and other spicy Shaanxi food

Mayfair Garden for dim sum

Bun House for bao buns (salted duck egg custard buns!!!)

Hutong HK is pretty good, not that I have the money for dining out much any more. I prefer Chili Fagara, a neighbourhoody Sichuan place that nonetheless once had a Michelin star.

In the U.K. i used to like Anglo style Cantonese restaurants although somehow the takeaway version never appetised. Dragon House in Newcastle’s Chinatown was good.

"not that I have the money for dining out much any more"

(1) you left law again

(2) you didn't come to Dubai

(3) you didn't save enough

In 3 years in Dubai, you'd have more money than you'd know what to do with for the rest of your life

holidays to Thailand and London

OK. I did say about your practice area though. I did tell you. If you shifted to something else you could have gotten out. It isn't you, it's your area. It never was you.

Fin reg maybe. Bit of fin tech. Get into that in HK. Come to Dubai, really get stuck in. You'd be head of payments at Apple or something.

You'd have the authority, the brand name, the money. You'd like that.

Fvck off Hyoo. We need more threads that aren’t about COVID or Brexit or how many shekels you can earn in Dubai or any of the other tired shit that has been done to death, dragged from the grave and then beaten into submission yet again.

u think people work harder in dubai. they don't. it's the opposite.

so much misinformation.

do you know there are nearly double the days of annual leave in dubai and during ramadan basically no one works?

no - i'm just saying

I went to Hunan when the old guy was still in charge.  It was ok, but nothing special.

Yauatcha is pretty good.

Chinese colleagues of mine rate the place in Greenwich mentioned above.

Used to like Leong's Legend Continues (yes, that is a restaurant name).  Think it has closed down now though.

Never go to Royal China after the one in St. John's Wood gave me food poisoning.
