Marina Hyde’s view of BoJo…

“Did you or didn’t you go to a big party in your garden, you smirking fibreglass toby jug? Or do you also have to wait for some veteran civil servant to tell you whether or not you put your pants on the right way round this morning?”

Heh…

Heh. She must be loving all the material she gets from this government!

It’s a satirist’s gold mine.

Although there’s barely anything left to satirize, so she’s fortunate to also have a gift for invective.

I dunno, I'm always a bit unsympathetic about privately-educated double-barrelled heiresses of baronets attacking people in power, because, well, they're all in it together.

Not her choice who her parents are or, presumably, where she went to school.

It is her choice how to spend her adult life and she's doing well so far.

She got a gig writing for the newspaper because her father was Sir Bufton Tufton of Chufton Manor, and she's as funny as genocide, but tbf she happens to be right in this case.

Quite right, comrade. Come the Revolution, eh?

Although point of information, she’s not the heir(ess), at least not of the title, that would be her uncle, Malcolm Chinless-Wonder.

And it’s a relatively recent baronetcy due to her grandfather’s aeronautical career and contributions to jet engines in aircraft (quite important to the Battle of Britain…) and political record, she’s not exactly from the gilded aristocracy (her grandpa created the double barrel by deed poll in 1930, which seems a bit arriviste to me, although 3 Ducks is the expert on such matters).

She's probably the most talented columnist of her generation, Dux, you cheeky japer.

I refuse to believe there's such a dearth of talent around.

The Chris Gayle of Kensington Gardens made me properly lol

and also gave me mild PTSD as I remembered how goddam pompous the police were in Hyde park/Ken gardens last year. Trundling around in their little vans telling people over the megaphone “don’t sit down, if you want to be here you need to KEEP MOVING”

Ok - you try writing regularly over a decade or more on sport, entertainment and politics and consistently winning peer decided awards for that writing

Absolutely shocking that the filth tried to stop people playing cricket.

this isn’t Afghanistan ffs

LOL @ the privileged twerps on here demanding levelling up in journalism as cover for begging them to stop skewering top chap Bozo.

Fingers crossed there'll be another newspaper columnist back on the market before long...

I rather doubt that jet engines were important in the Battle of Britain.

If only this country had stopped entitled [Eton educated] toffs becoming journalists, it might be a better place.

Also lol at lefties tying themselves in knots trying to say they are not really posh. "SHE USES PG TIPS TEABAGS!? SHE REGULARLY HELPS TIDY UP AFTER THE ISLINGTON FARMER'S MARKET!!!"

"Absolutely shocking that the filth tried to stop people playing cricket.

TBF the Taliban have not just allowed cricket, but encouraged its growth.

They're not massive fans of the ladies game though.

Her best point imho is, as has been plain since this gibbon was elected, that the absence of any sort of truth at the heart of government just feeds the loony conspiracy theorists. It makes no difference to Bodger’s well-being wtf happens around this. It makes a massive difference to everyone else’s. His popularity is based simply on legitimising othering, privileging your own experience over any objective values, and allowing greed to run riot. Not a great recipe for society, and certainly not during a time of crisis, a crisis let’s not forget, made appreciably worse by his own behaviour and that of his poundshop cabinet. These grifters must go.

It is her choice how to spend her adult life and she's doing well so far.

Agreed, apart from the affair with Piers Morgan.

‘TBF the Taliban have not just allowed cricket, but encouraged its growth.‘

didn’t realise the ‘Darly barn’ were such big fans. Thought it was an infidel game?

Who cares if marina Hyde is posh? Is she in government? Does she make any of these decisions? Is she a Tory donor who has been awarded contracts by her mates?

posh people are still (just about) allowed opinions

Fingers crossed there'll be another newspaper columnist back on the market before long...

hehe

and what ooffer said about truth and whatnot.

I don't mind the fact that she's posh. And she writes pretty well with an amusing turn of phrase. My only irritation is that it's always so, so, predictable. Obvious targets, obvious humour, slavishly following Guardian sympathies. Would be interesting to see what she'd do if Labour were in charge.

Good columnist by all accounts.

Not sure why were obsessing about her class or breeding or what her dad did…..again. Otherwise this should all be listed, in bold, in the footer of every article and people would have to ‘keep to their station’…oh wait, that’s what some are suggesting.

Any doubters of Marina Hyde need to remind themselves what the competition is, ie other newspaper political sketch writers. John Crace’s column today is a nice comparator (he is miles behind her). And let’s not mention Quentin Letts, who considers the height of satirical wit is to imply that a straight male politician is effeminate.

they also need to remind themselves that she does not just do politics either - she is also a recent winner of sports writer of the year

Poor old Frank Keating must be spinning in his grave.
