Southern Hemisphere escape this winter ?

Looking for somewhere to go for a couple of months around January/February time. Would normally go to NZ and indeed I actually have flights booked but I increasingly doubt it will be open to UK visitors by that point.

Just want somewhere that feels like a nice English summer, somewhere safe and low hassle. Drink some wine, read a few books, doze in the afternoon sun by the pool/sea. Climb a few hills, soak up a bit of local culture (NZ gets a pass on that :O )

Chile looks interesting. Anyone been ? Any other suggestions ?

(my only experiences of winter sun have been NZ, Canaries (ok but limited stuff to do once you've seen a couple of lava flows, and the days are still short), Australia (brief trips to Sydney and Melbourne, cool places but same issue as NZ probably))

Not sure if you can get into Malaysia now but that is a reasonable alternative.

Find the right part of the country and the booze isn't a problem, climate is fine and (generally) hassle free.

Six weeks on Langkawi in January/February sounds great to me.

We're off to French Polynesia....letting in vaccinated Brits and we can even transit through America now (after November anyway).

Can't wait to ring in 2022 from my overwater bungalow in Bora Bora.
